User Management

Birch supports multiple levels of user permissions so you are able to fine-tune access to your routing systems for your users. There are three permissions groups available:

Administrator

  • Access to all routing systems in organization

  • Access and editing of their own private softpanels, all shared softpanels and all kiosk panels

  • Administration of Trunklines

  • Administration of Probes

  • Administration of Users and Access Lists

  • Owner Only (1 per organization): Administration of Billing

User

  • Access to all routing systems in organization

  • Access and editing of their own private softpanels

  • Access to all shared softpanels

Restricted User

  • Access to sources, destinations and/or devices as defined by access list

  • Access and editing of their own private softpanel

  • Access to shared softpanels as defined by access list

Creating or editing a user

To add a new User to the organization, an Administrator can select Add User from the Settings -> Organization page.

If this is the first time the user is has accessed a Birch organization, they will receive an email with their temporary password to log in. If the user already has access to Birch for another organization, they will have the option to choose the organization to log into after the sign in process.

Restricted Users

If you are setting up a Restricted User, an Access Lists should be defined first, then selected when creating the user.

Access Lists

An Administrator can build an Access List which defines sources, destinations, devices and softpanels for a Restricted User to access. An Access List can be added from the Settings -> Organization page by clicking Add Access List.

Devices

Select any Device in the organization to make available to the user. By default both the destinations (DESTS) and sources (SRCS) are available when adding a device, but it is possible to add only the sources or only the destinations for the user to access. This can be helpful to expose to a specific user any source from a Device, but restrict to only a few destinations (such as their station's monitors).

Destinations

Select any individual Destinations from any Device in the organization.

Sources

Select any individual Sources from any Device in the organization.

Softpanels

Select any Shared Softpanels to expose to this user.

The Restricted User will only be able to access the exposed sources, destinations, devices and shared softpanels defined by their access list. It is possible to apply one access list to many different Restricted Users.

Any sources or destinations defined in a shared softpanel will be available to a Restricted User, regardless if those specific sources or destinations are exposed via an Access List.
